Who is used to the feeling of structured, stifling blazers and suit jackets? Formal used to mean inhibiting outfits but this needs to change, life is more than struggling through restricted fashion options. Try soft, sumptuous silk blazers which with its thermoregulating properties and blends with wool and other natural fabrics, can be worn across seasons. Slightly oversized with drop shoulders adds a feeling of relaxation, ability to layer and to be honest, allows the flexibility for your body to change over time too.

We know the buying and styling blazers can be daunting as women. You don't need to be model to make this style work for you. Blazers and suit jackets are so versatile, they can suit all body shapes, and with a sprinkle of confidence and the right outfit combinations, get ready to look and feel like the elegant women you are. The best part is that they instantly make an outfit look put together in just a few seconds meaning you can focus your time and effort on the things that are important to you! Here are some tips to help you purchase and style this for you:

Balance Proportions

It's essential to balance the proportions of your outfit. If going for the slightly oversized blazer, pair it with more fitted or tailored pieces like skinny jeans, leggings, or a slim-fitting slip dress to create contrast and maintain a polished look. If you want it to be a little more fitted, as Silkinc blazers tend to be quite oversized, you can size down by one and it should be just right for what you are looking for. You can also create an oversized vibe by buying a normal tailored blazer and then sizing up, so just make sure you are checking the product description.

It also depends if you have broad or narrow shoulders. If you have narrow shoulders, an oversized blazer with shoulder pads looks amazing and balances out proportions; whereas if you are broader shouldered, or pear shaped, blazers without shoulder pads look lovely.

Create Definition

To define your waist and add structure to the oversized blazer, consider adding a belt. A wide belt or a statement belt can cinch the blazer at the waist, creating a flattering silhouette. You can also roll up the sleeves of the oversized blazer can give it a more relaxed and casual vibe. We love using a simple elasticated hair band (not too tight!) in the same color of the blazer to hold the sleeves up at the elbow so it avoids the sleeve falling when you move around, perfect Spring and Summer vibes. Rolled sleeves also draws attention to your wrists and can be a great opportunity to show off statement accessories like bracelets or a watch.

Choose the Right Bottoms

Opt for bottoms that complement the blazer's style. Tailored trousers, pencil skirts, or shorts can work well with an oversized blazer, depending on the occasion and your personal style. Leggings can also work really well when wearing a blazer for casual occasions with chunky boots. For those of you with some height, relaxed flowing trousers, look amazing with either heels, trainers or loafers.

Layer Thoughtfully

Layering can add depth and interest to your outfit. Consider wearing a simple plain tee, blouse, or turtleneck sweater for the colder months underneath the blazer. The choice of layering piece can significantly impact the overall look and we find that it is key to avoid complicated and chunky layers beneath your blazer.

Footwear Matters

For a more casual look, sneakers or ankle boots can work well. For a dressier outfit, and especially if petite and styling with oversized trousers, opt for heels. If you have the height or styling with skinnier or tailored trousers, loafers or even knee-high boots do wonders to elevate the ensemble.

Accessorize

Use accessories to add personality to your outfit. Scarves, hats, and sunglasses can all complement the blazer and help tie the look together. We find that chunky necklaces drown out your blazer but we love stacking statement bracelets and rings if you have chosen to try the rolled up sleeve style. A simple, one colored handbag that is not too large to avoid messing up the balance of proportions.

A belt is an incredible accessory to balance out your proportions, either with a dress or even over your blazer.

Consider the Occasion

Keep in mind the occasion you're dressing for. Oversized blazers can work for both casual and formal events, depending on how you style them. The key is to keep things simple, unfussy and balanced.

Workwear:

Keep things simple and combine your blazer with a tucked in classic white shirt, straight jeans and loafers or heels. If your office is more formal, switch out the jeans for tailored trousers or a pencil skirt. Sometimes it is easier to keep things really simple and go for clean office colors such as blacks and navy's but don't be afraid to mix in some block colors and tan is the perfect combination color for the office.

Elegant events and evening-wear:

For effortless vibes, opt for a midi dress or skirt and mandarin collar top with your blazer. Go for a monochrome flowing but fitted look for your inner layer so that it elongates your figure and creates a stunning silhouette. You can choose the same color or a block color contrasting your blazer. This looks amazing whether petite or tall and looks great with a pair of heels.

If you want to style your blazer with trousers, keep the monochrome look going, and try it with a three-piece. Either baggy or tailored trousers, with a fitted waistcoat, will immediately formalize your blazer ready for being boss. Another option, is to mix in a colored crop-top with your oversized blazer. Fun and formality are allowed to go together!

Daytime suiting:

Blazers are not just for the formal occasions. They are ultimately just a tailored jacket so try using them as such and have fun with the contrast. To keep things casual, combine with a simple white t-shirt, jeans and trainers which is a perfect way to dress down your blazer. Short and mini-skirts are another sure way to create a relaxed blazer look. We have found that the same color shorts / skirt and blazer looks great, usually finishing around similar lengths or a couple of inches longer or the proportions and balance look a little off. Avoid cropped trousers but you can even try keeping your blazers over your shoulders (as long as you don't find this falls off!).

Going REALLY casual, let's go crazy and mix in the blazer look with a monochrome tracksuit and trainers. Life has way too much going on to dress up every day but it still feels nice to feel put together. Need to do school pick-up? Go to the park with kids? Pop to the local shops for last minute items? Feel comfy and throw on your blazer to bring together your outfit where you've balanced making an effort, but at the same time, haven't!

Whether you even call it fashion or just dressing to be you, remember that what you wear is personal and there are no strict rules. Experiment with different looks and find what works best for your body type and personal style. Whether you're going for a relaxed, casual look or a more polished ensemble, an oversized blazer can be a versatile addition to your wardrobe and can be worn over and over again, especially when made from durable fabric such as silk.
